CHICAGO, IL - In response to Chicago’s unprecedented increase in violent carjackings, mostly of rideshare drivers, Uber has announced a new feature to the rideshare app. Starting February 1st, Uber promises to allow passengers to report a carjacking by giving a rating between 1 and 5 stars to any armed assailant who seizes a vehicle they are travelling in.

“Uber is always striving to improve the user experience,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. “Whether expanding our offerings with Uber Pool and UberX, or sponsoring legislation to prevent our driver partners from collecting a living wage, Uber is always on the forefront of innovation.”

The new feature, UberJack, will give riders the opportunity to leave ratings and helpful comments about carjackers, and to look up the ratings previous riders left of their violent encounters. Car thieves who earn consistently bad ratings may receive an email from Uber informing them of their poor performance.

“The safety of our customers is our number one priority,” the press release concluded. “As long as we don’t have to do anything about it.”

UberJack should not be confused with “UberJacked”--a new feature of the rideshare app that allows carjackers to begin working as Uber Drivers as soon as they make this corner and lose that cop car.
